RE: Coaching Announcement
The Madison Area YMCA is pleased to announce the appointment of Lisa Boettrich as Assistant Coach of the Madison Area YMCA Mariners Swim Team and Competitive Programs.
I am writing this letter to introduce myself as the newly appointed assistant of the Mariners Swim Team.
My name is Lisa Boettrich and I have been swimming competitively since the age of 8 for Hilton Area Swim Team in Hilton, NY, my hometown where my parents still reside. I was involved with a couple other club teams in the area including Monroe Community College Marauders, where Ryan Lochte swam and his father coached.
In addition, I also competed for my High School Team where I set several Varsity and Pool records in the 200 IM, 100 back, 100 breast, and Medley and Freestyle relays and lead the team to a League Championship for the first time in the Hilton High School swimming history.
After graduating in 1999 from High School, I went to the University at Buffalo, a Division I-A school. My freshman year as a part of a record-setting 400 Medley relay I was awarded full scholarship for my remaining three years. I had a very successful college swimming career with highlights such as competing at the US Open in Minneapolis, Minnesota in the 800 free relay. I was also able to better my times every year for my four years at Buffalo. I was voted, by my teammates, as captain my senior year and awarded the Coaches award, given to the hardest worker on the team.
In 2003 I was accepted into a program for a Master’s in Library and Information Science at the University of Texas at Austin. While attending school I got a part time job working at the East Communities YMCA in Austin and realized I was on the wrong career path. I worked as a lifeguard and swim instructor and also helped to start a pre-team program for the Y and had a great time being back in the environment that is so natural to me.
I then contacted my former Coach at the University at Buffalo, Dorsi Raynolds, who was, in 2006, the Head Coach for the Drew University Men’s and Women’s Swim Team, here in Madison, NJ. She had a position open as her Assistant and invited me to interview for the job. I was accepted and made the move back to the East Coast to be her assistant. I helped coach the college team through a very successful season. I coached a group of individuals become a cohesive team with traditions and more driven attitudes than we had started with.
The experience at Drew this past year has made me so excited about coaching people of all ages to be better swimmers and as a result grow into better people. The education that athletics and being a part of a team provides is invaluable and unlike anything one can learn in a classroom. I believe it goes right along with a well-rounded education and I look forward to giving that to your children here at the Mariners Swim Team. I also look forward to working with and as an assistant for John Gullotta. (He really made the decision to move to the Y easy for me!)
Thank you for the opportunity!
Work Hard, Swim Fast, Have Fun
